This N.C.O. commanded a platoon of the Left attacking Company throughout the operation and displayed great initiative and daring in leading his men forward under heavy artillery fire and across ground swept by fire from a large number of enemy machine guns. During one stage of the attack when the platoon on his right was held up he skilfully disposed his men so as to render every assistance to that platoon and immediately the opposition was being countered he led his men forward with great dash, thus only delaying the advance of the whole line for a very short time. He was wounded as the final objective was reached. This N.C.O. set a splendid example of leadership and dash throughout the whole operation.
