Corporal Heatherlie Hudson Payne (Service No:SF64835) enlisted in the AWAS on 23 March 1942 as a Private - graded Clerk - serving with HQ SA. Corporal Payne was attached to HQ L of C Area at Discharge on 29 November 1945.

Heatherlie was born in Unley, South Australia in 1922, eldest of three children of Arthur Randolph Payne (b1893 at Sanders Creek, South Australia) and Ada Louise Brown (b1898 in London, England). Arthur (a Farmer) and Ada (a Lady's Maid) married in 1921 in Unley - Ada immigrated in 1921, arriving in Adelaide on board the Mantua. Arthur served in WWI and WWII - he and Ada settled in Unley where they raised their family and Arthur was an Insurance Agent and Inspector.

Heatherlie was working as a Typist in 1942 when she enlisted in the Army, and following her Discharge returned to Unley before moving to Western Australia, where she worked in Perth as a Secretary. In the late 1970s in Adelaide, Heatherlie married Ross Haldane Ragless (b1920 in Adelaide, South Australia) - Ross, a Widower, served in the Army (Service No:SX11199) and RAAF (Sergeant; Service No:442801) in WWII. Heatherlie and Ross (a Civil Servant) settled in Adelaide, where Ross died in 2011. Heatherlie died in 2018.
