Corporal Lloyd Read Opie (Service No:S54926) enlisted in the ACMF on 29 December 1941 with 4 Australian Military District (MD) Ammunition Coy and transferred to 122 General Transport (AGT) Coy on 7 August 1942. Promoted to Corporal in September 1943, he served with Bulk Issue Petrol and Oil Depot (BIPOD) and was attached to 87 Supply Depot Platoon at Discharge on 14 June 1945.

Lloyd was the fourth of ten children of Francis (Frank) Thomas Opie (b1871 in Kadina, South Australia) and Mary Kathleen Veronica Larkin (nee Irvin; b1888 in Macclesfield, South Australia). Frank (a Labourer) and Mary married in 1915 in Broken Hill, NSW where they settled and raised their family and Frank was a Labourer.

Lloyd was a Labourer and Lorry Driver in Broken Hill NSW and was in South Australia in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1942 in South Australia Lloyd married Rhonda Gwyneth Chenowith (b1921 in Clifton Hill, Victoria) - Rhonda had been in Adelaide SA since the mid 1920s. By 1949 Lloyd and Rhonda had settled in Broken Hill, NSW where Lloyd was a Motor Driver. By the 1960s Lloyd and Rhonda were living at Chatsworth via Gympie, QLD where Lloyd was a Farmer until his retirement when they returned to Adelaide SA. Lloyd died in 1992 and Rhonda in 2010.
