Eldest of six siblings (Adrian, Mercia, Ross, Clive, Joan and Gloria) who served in WWII, Private Adrian Lord George Thomas (Service No:S31007) enlisted in the ACMF on 7 March 1941, and marched out to camp at Warradale. Private Thomas was attached to 3rd Field Ambulance on 21 December 1941 when he embarked with his Unit from Darwin for Port Moresby, and on 15 September 1943 he embarked from Port Moresby for Cairns on board the Duntroon. Transferred to 3/14 Field Ambulance on 2 November 1943, Private Thomas embarked on 21 December 1943 from Townsville for Aitape on board the Katoomba, and transferred to 104th Casualty Clearing Station (CCS). Private Thomas embarked from Wewak on 4 February 1946 from Wewak for Brisbane on board HT Duntroon, and was attached to 3/14 Field Ambulance at Discharge on 5 March 1946.
Adrian was born in Glenelg, South Australia in 1914, eldest of seven children of Henry (George) Thomas (b1888 in Woollahra, New South Wales) and Harriet (Rose) Butler (b1891 in Glenelg, South Australia). George was Reported as Missing from home in 1907, and he and Rose married in 1914 in Glenelg, where they settled and raised their family - six of their seven children served in WWII. George worked as a Labourer, Distiller and Tomato Grower.
Adrian was working as a Labourer in Glenelg in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he returned to Adelaide, and by 1970 was living in Mitchell Park in Adelaide with Lorna Jean Potter (nee O'Flaherty; b1923 in Edwardstown, South Australia) - Lorna (a Widow) had served in the WAAAF (Service No:107013) in WWII.
