9 Nov 1917: | Honoured Military Medal, "On 26th Sept 1917 during the attack on ZONNEBEKE RIDGE, N.E. of YPRES these men as company runners did exceptional good work carrying important messages to Battalion Head Qrs, often under heavy shell, & machine gun fire at great personal risk. Their courage & devotion to duty was conspicuous & their responsibility that communication was kept with Coy & Battalion never failed." The five soldiers were 2403 Soloman LITTMANN, 2690 Gilbert McLENNAN, 1924 James Holland, 3011 Charles Bogie YOUNG and 2920 Frederick Carl HIEDEN, all Privates. The soldier's service records had also been noted "Army Corps Commander expresses appreciation of gallant services rendered during recent operations." |
