He was 28 and the son of Edward and Mary Ann Flanders.

He is commemorated on the war memorial in the village of Aveley, Thurrock, Essex along with two other Casualties of the Great War who served with Australian forces:  Herbert Rose and Harry Wall. A New Zealand casualty, Reginald Pavitt is also commemorated here.
