Military Service«/b»:«/i» S536 Private Alfred Edward Todd, enlisted in the Australian Army on the 12«sup»th«/sup» September 1940, at Keswick South Australia, After enlistment at Keswick on 12 Sep 1940, was taken on strength with the 4«sup»th«/sup» Garrison Battalion on the 10«sup»th«/sup» March 1941. On the 24«sup»th«/sup» December 1943 changed his home address and address of Next of Kin (NOK) to Burra North. Most of his 6 years in the Army was spent on Guard Duty with a Company of 4«sup»th«/sup» Garrison Battalion and these included time at the following establishments: 1942-43 Keswick Barracks, Parafield , Port Adelaide, Adelaide Gaol, Port Wakefield, Port Pirie and Murray Bridge. 1943-1944 Terowie and 1945 at 121 Australian General Hospital. On the 14«sup»th«/sup» January 1946 Alfred was discharged being medically unfit, with chronic lumbar strain and secondary spondylitis. His degree of disability was assessed at 40% and this is the amount of pension he received (40/100%). Certificate of discharge number was 326168 and unit for discharge purposes was the same unit he spent all my time with the 4«sup»th«/sup» Battalion. Served on continuos full time service in the Citizens Military Forces (CMF) for a total of 1951 days, which included active service in Australia of 1372 days.Was entitled to receive The War Medal 1939/45 and the Australian Service Medal (ASM) 1939/45, this being a full medal entitlement. Both medals were posted to him: the ASM on 9/4/1951 and the War medal on 27/9/1950
