24 Jul 1918: Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, Citation reads:- For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in a raid. Whilst arranging his Bagalore torpedoes for destroying the enemy wire an enemy bomb wounded him and one of his men. He remained absolutely quiet, and though suffering great pain from his wound fired one of the torpedoes personally according to programme. He stayed at his post during the operations assisting in the evacuation of wounded prisoners and then proceeded back to his lines, re-organizing and checking his platoon before reporting to the regimental aid post. His cool courage enabled the raiding party to surprise the enemy after finding his wire broken. With his brother A Yeates 16th Battalion. at Tranmere worked to improve the property the Department of land as part of the Land Settlement parnershiped with the Department which paid 4,700 pounds for the property,  The Department insisted that it be devivided in case of disputes.  This 18 acres were planted with fruit tree and vines.  the men had to pay a third of the value of the trees themselves but have kept their heads above water and improved the place.

Brother of Ethel May Yeates, Elizabeth Anne Yeates, Beatrice Louisa Yeates. Amborse Yeates  who returned to Australia during May 1919 having served with the 16th Battalion and Clarence Victor Yeates who returned to Australia  in January 1919 having served with the 43rd Battalion

Returned to Australia on 17 April 1919 aboard SS Moana

On 16 October 1920 George married Dorothy Rhoda Barnes in the St George's Church of England, Woodforde, SA
