Private Lawrence Thomas Brine (Service Nos:S37436/SX39620) initially served in the ACMF, enlisting on 20 October 1941 - graded Cook. Private Brine was attached to SA L of C Petrol Section and 25 Garrison Battalion Loveday. On 22 November 1943 Private Brine was attached to 162 Australian General Transport (AGT) Coy when he embarked with his Unit from Townsville for Buna on board the Duntroon. On 15 March 1944, Private Brine was 'in the field' in New Guinea when he transferred to the AIF, and on 10 June 1944 he embarked from Buna for Townsville on board the Duntroon. Private Brine was attached to 5th Amphibious Vehicles Increment (AVI) at Discharge on 28 March 1945.
Laurie was born in Kent Town in Adelaide, South Australia in 1920, fifth of seven children of Thomas Alfred Brine (b1888 in Napperby, South Australia) and Edith (Edie) may Kempster (b1888 in Kadina, South Australia). Thomas (a Labourer) and Edie (a Domestic Servant with an infant son) married in 1910 in Thebarton in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family. Thomas worked as a Labourer, Motor Driver, Factory Worker and Bag Dealer until his death in 1940.
Laurie worked in the family business (Brine Bag Merchants) and in 1944 in Adelaide married his first wife, Kathleen Jean Kschammer (b1922 in Adelaide, South Australia). Following their Divorce in 1948, Laurie remarried to Dorothy Mary Wilks (b1923 in Belalie, South Australia). Laurie and Dorothy settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family. Laurie died in 1977 and Dorothy in 2007.
