Youngest of five brothers (and numerous cousins) to serve in WWII, Private Clarence William Roger Brown (Service Nos:S20494/SX39958) initially served in the ACMF (29 September 1941 - 15 August 1944), and was attached to 27 Infantry Battalion when he enlisted 'in the field' in the AIF on 16 August 1944. Private Brown served in New Guinea (Lae and Bougainville) in 1944, and the Solomon Islands in 1945 with 61 Infantry Battalion. Private Brown as attached to 27 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 14 December 1945.

Youngest of six children, Clarence was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1919 to Harold Henry Sidney Brown (b1882 at South Hummocks on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia) and Mary Anne Kempster (b1884 in Magill, South Australia). Harold was a Labourer in 1903 when he and Mary married in New Town in Kadina. They lived in Kadina until 1912, when they settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Harold was a Labourer and worked for the Tramways as a Conductor and Motor Man.

Clarence was a French Polisher and Sprayer in Adelaide before enlisting in the Army. Following his Discharge, he settled in Adelaide, where he married Doris Rachel Anne Turner (b1921 in Bute, South Australia) - Doris worked in Adelaide as an Operator. Doris died in 2000 and Clarence in 2011.
