Son of Mrs E.M. and the late S.E. BEAVIS of 24 Lowe Street, Adelaide, SA. Educated at Christian Brothers' College Adelaide, Leonard played cricket for New Adelaide United and was a very able batsman. He was Captain in 1938/39 and had the best batting average. He also played football and in civilian life was a press operator at Holdens for several years. Leonard was a member of the Militia which he joined soon after the outbreak of war and was called up in August 1941.
