Biography: Arthur Edward Reeves
Early Life
Arthur Edward Reeves was born on 27 January 1924 at Adelaide, South Australia, the son of Herbert Augustus Reeves and Violet Verna Adele Richardson. He grew up in Parkside, Adelaide, and before enlistment worked as a clerk.
War Service
Arthur enlisted first in the Citizen Military Forces (CMF) at Unley on 27 August 1942 (Army No. S114360). He later transferred to the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on 7 June 1943, receiving service number SX38120.
He served with the 31st Australian Line Section, Signals, training and working at camps across South Australia and Victoria, including Wayville, Balcombe, and Campbell. His service was entirely within Australia, including periods in the Northern Territory, attached to Signals and Engineering formations.
Arthur attained the rank of Corporal. His medical record noted green eyes, fair hair, and a scar near his left eye as well as a hernia operation scar.
He was discharged on 26 June 1946 at Adelaide, after 1,116 days of full-time service.

Marriage and Family
On 14 April 1945, Arthur married Joyce Estelle Williams (1922–2001), daughter of Edmund Theodore Williams and Mavis Edith Frankham, at Mordialloc, Victoria. They settled in Adelaide, where Arthur resumed civilian work.
Together they raised a family, including:
Carol Joyce Reeves – born 6 December 1950, died 3 January 1959, aged 8 years.
David Reeves – named on Carol's headstone as her surviving brother.
Later Life and Death
Arthur lived most of his life in South Australia. Joyce passed away on 12 April 2001, and Arthur followed on 21 July 2004, aged 80.
Both are buried at Enfield Memorial Park, Anglican section, Row N, Site 2, together with their daughter Carol. Their shared memorial inscription preserves their memory as beloved parents and as a family who endured both war service and personal loss.
