Son of Mr and Mrs C F BALL of Warooka, Yorke Peninsula, SA. Married with four children Lawrence was residing at 89 The Parade, Norwood, SA. Educated at Edithburgh School, he worked for several years at Edithburgh for Castle Salt Company, afterwards moving to Cape Spencer to the Peninsula Plaster Company at Emmiston. After seven years he transferred to Kangaroo Island and engaged in fishing at Kingscote for nine years and then joined the S.A. Harbours Board, enlisting in November 1939.
