From Daniel (grandson)
So many great memories...to name a few...
- his homemade nutloaf with butter spread on top (the good stuff, none of this low fat reduced salt rubbish)
- fishing; I remember being amazed how he could tell what he had hooked before he even pulled it in
- gardening; eating strawberries and peaches fresh out the garden or stewed up with icecream
- playing cards; tought me how to play and so canny and coy at times, always good fun. Remember playing uker for hours at a time.
- personality; definitely loved by all, kind, always smiling. I think what sums it up for me is the way the neighbours new him at the Seaton house, they loved talking to him and he always had time for a chat. Incidentally I ran into one of the neighbours Chris a few months ago and she still talks about him glowingly.
- driving; now that was always interesting, who could forget speeding up 100s of metres away to just make it through the orange light, or the cussing when he missed the lights or some idiot pulled out in front of him.
- fish and chips on the beach as a special treat
- fresh whiting coated in flour and shallow fried, so good and still can't quite replicate it despite many attempts
- great big hugs every time you arrive or leave
- always waving goodbye from the driveway as you left
- the war, never talked about it much (to me anyway), must have been horrible, though I always remember the fishing with dynamite story which is about as much as he would say
- sitting on the couch wrapped in a mohair rug with him watching the tv
- the footy; never happy with the umpires, all cheating...
- the trots; some great stories and definitely rigged...
