Driver John Patrick Toogood (Service No:SX32930) initially served with the ACMF (Gunner; Service No:S114169) with Proof and Experimental Section Port Wakefield South Australia from 30 April 1943 to 30 October 1943. Private Toogood then enlisted on 31 October 1943 in the AIF and served in New Guinea (25 July 1945 - 5 July 1946). He was a Driver attached to 2/163 General Transport Coy at Discharge on 15 December 1946.
Born in 1925 at Steaky Bay in South Australia, John was the fifth of seven children of Stephen Joseph Toogood (b1893 in Mitcham, Nunawading, Victoria) and Jessie Caroline Hunter (b1901 at Streaky Bay, South Australia). Stephen (a Labourer) and Jessie married in 1917 in Streaky Bay, where they settled and raised their family and Stephen was a Farmer. Stephen had previously served as a Stoker on HMS Psyche (1911) and in the AIF (Private; Service No:1545).
John was a Stockman in 1943 when he enlisted in the ACMF and in 1946 in Bondi Junction, Sydney, NSW John married Loyis Clarke (nee Opie; b1923 in Broken Hill, NSW). Following his Discharge, John and Loyis settled in Broken Hill, NSW where John worked as a Stoker and Contractor. John and Loyis later settled in Adelaide, South Australia where Loyis died in 2004 and John in 2019.
