Roebuck served in the AIF in the Dental Corps with the Australian Army Medical Corps, and returned to Australia embarking on 8 May 1919.
Two of his brothers died during the First World War, the eldest, Francis Henry Roebuck 18th Battalion was killed in action at Gallipoli on 22 August 1915. Albert Kenneth Roebuck 24th Battalion was killed in action at Pozieres on 5 August 1916.
