MORRIS William Rosslyn Charles MRCS LRCP

1901-1984

William Rosslyn Charles Morris was born, on 23rd July 1901, at Woodville South Australia. He was the son of Charles Richard Morris and Emma Sarah, nee Mitton. Morris was educated at Prince Alfred College and commenced medicine at the University of Adelaide in 1921.  He completed his medical qualifications in England with the MRCS LRCP and registered with the Medical Board of South Australia, in 1929. He married Beatrice Lydia Rowley, on 12th December 1925 in St Augustine’s Church, Unley. She was the daughter of Albert Ernest Rowley and Eliza Emma, nee Taylor.  Morris and his wife were to have two sons and two daughters.

Morris enlisted in the CMF and was posted to 3rd FdAmb, as a captain, on 15th December 1941. He went with 3rd FdAmb to Port Moresby, 8MD, PNG embarking on 27th December 1941. Morris was promoted to major, on 1st September 1942, and volunteered for the 2/AIF on 5th November 1942, commencing full-time duty on 15th December 1942. He named his wife of Woodville Road, Woodville, SA as his next of kin. He was detached for a short time to 2/1st FdAmb on 9th February 1943.  Morris returned to the Australian mainland with 3rd FdAmb on 2nd July 1943, arriving in Cairns, QLD, on 4th July. When 3rd FdAmb and 14th FdAmb amalgamated, he was posted to the newly combined unit, and then detached to HQ 28 Australian Inf Bde on 31st October 1943. This was followed by a detachment to 107 Convalescent Depot on 17th December 1943.  He was required to undertake locum tenens for a Dr Collins in New South Wales.  Morris returned to 4MD Adelaide and was posted as DADMS on 10th July 1944. He was discharged from the 2/AIF, on 19th Feb 1946, and transferred to the Reserve of Officers.

 After the war, Morris went into general practice while living in Leabrook, a suburb of Adelaide. William Rosslyn Charles Morris, died on 12th August 1984 and is interred in the North Road Cemetery, Nailsworth, South Australia. His wife and four children survived him.
