COOPER Kenneth Francis MB BS

1907-1983

Kenneth Francis Cooper was born on 29th November 1907 in Adelaide, South Australia. He was the son of Claude Tidswell Cooper and Annie Maud, nee Rodgers. Cooper was educated at Prince Alfred College, and he studied medicine at the University of Adelaide graduating MB BS in 1929. He married Nancy Eileen Ward, on 24th May 1933, in St Peters Church, Glenelg, South Australia. She was the daughter of John Harold Ward and Nancy Elizabeth, nee Winch.  Cooper and his wife had a son on 12th December 1941

Cooper joined the CMF as an honorary captain and was placed on the Reserve of Officers, in the AAMC, on 22nd September 1939. He served with the CMF until 29th June 1942. Initially, he was attached to 27th Bn on 8th December 1942 and on 15th of that month he was sent to 7 MD in WA. He was seconded to the 2/AIF in June 1942 and attached to 12th FdAmb for a brief period, but then transferred to 121 AGH on 18th July 1942. Cooper had compassionate leave in August 1942. Promoted to major, on 12th October 1942, he was assigned to SA LofC area on 21st January 1943. He joined 101 AGH, on 4th February 1943, and subsequently transferred to 121 AGH on 31st August 1943.  He was allowed a period of doing a locum tenens task during the Christmas period of 1944. Cooper was posted as a physician to 121 AGH on 28 March 1946 and later detached to 105 AMH. Cooper's appointment to the AIF was terminated on 16th September 1946, and he was placed on the Reserve of Officers and then placed on Retired List on 31st December 1962.

Following the war, Cooper was in general practice and a Member of the Australian Medical Association. He lived at 130 Sydenham Road, Norwood. Kenneth Francis Cooper died on 15th June 1983. His wife Nancy died on 13th August 1988, and they are buried at Centennial Park Cemetery in Pasadena, South Australia.
