Son of Norman Reginald Gemmell and Rose Marie Rankine, of Seacliffe, South Australia.

Gunner Reg Rankine, A.I.F., who was killed in a railway accident at Merriden. Western Australia, was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. N. R. Rankine of Brighton road, Seacliff. He was educated at Auburn and Brighton Primary and Thebarton Junior Technical Schools. He enlisted in the military forces in July, 1940 , and two years later transferred to the A.I.F. At the time of his death he was returning from recreational leave in Adelaide, and was on duty on a  train.

FATAL FALL FROM TRAIN.
MERREDIN. May 16.--Gnr Reginald Gemmell Rankine (23),Of South Australia, received fatal injuries when he fell from a flat topped railway waggon attached to a goods train, which was leaving Merredin at 6.45 pm yesterday. He was removed to the Merredin Hospital, where he died about 10 pm.
