Military citation.
"In the Wytshaete sector near Messine during the evening of the 11th August 1917
whilst the enemy was shelling the 39th battery position, a dump of ammunition consisting of some 500 rounds was hit and caught fire.
Gunner Walkden and three others, at great personal risk immediately proceeded to extinguish the fire with the loss of only 50 rounds of ammunition. His prompt action was the means of preventing the total loss of this ammunition, possible casualties to personnel and equipment.
The work of extinguishing the fire was carried out under heavy shell fire."
