Biography

Malcolm Blue was born in Glasgow Scotland on the 1st November 1922. His father Neil served in the Argyle Southern Highlanders during WW1. Malcolm's mother Elizabeth has previously been married to Mr. Hugh Weir who had died. Elizabeth had a son from that marriage who was also named Hugh.

Malcolm was her first son from her second marriage and she had a second son named Norman born 29th January 1925 in Glasgow. The Blue family of Neil, Elizabeth, Hugh, Malcolm and Norman migrated to Australia in 1925. Neil obtained work with the South Australian Railways (S.A.R.) and the family lived for a year at Wynarka in the Murray Mallee east of Murray Bridge. After one further move with S.A.R., to Culpara on the Yorke Penninsular the family re-located to Rostrevor in Adelaide.

Malcolm attended the Rostrevor Catholic College as did his brother's Hugh and Norman. Neil became the Superintendent of the Rostrevor Boys Correctional Centre. When WW2 broke out Malcolm enlisted with the AMF in Adelaide.  On 3rd November 1941 and reported for army service to the Artillery Building Keswick. He was recruited as a gunner with the 29 ATR Battery. He then trained for 6 months at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. He was subsequently appointed to L Company 3 ARTB AIF and served as a weapons instructor at Cunungra in Queensland for the duration of the War. He gained the rank of Sergeant. Malcolm was discharged from active service in 1945.
