Biography contributed by Peter Sunners

Stanley Martin was born on 1 October 1916 in Moonta, South Australia. Moonta is a small coastal town on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. His parents were Hedley Martin and Olive Bentley. After his education in his hometown he moved to Adelaide where he met and married Marjorie Paxton. This was on 15 June 1940 in Saint Cuthbert's Church of England, at Prospect, South Australia.  Marjorie was the eldest daughter of George Paxton and Isabella Sunners.
Following on from his enlistment and training in 1942 he was taken on strength of the 2/10th Infantry Battalion and sent to New Guinea as part of the general reinforcements following the fighting on the Kokoda Trail.
He was killed in action on 20 January 1943 during the Battle of Sanananda.
He was survived by his wife, Marjorie and their young son Peter Ross Martin who was born on 9 January 1942 in Adelaide. He was sadly missed by his family and in-laws.
