His first duties in the Army were as a Driver/Mechanic in the 121st Transport Company, assisting in the building of roads from Penong SA to the SA/WA border, then up to the Northern Territory between Alice Springs and Darwin for the Defence of Australia.
Australian Imperial Forces 4/7/1942 to 14/3/1946
Once in the AIF 6th Division 2/8th 19the Brigade he trained in the Atherton Tablelands Qld before being transported to New Guinea and fought in the Wee Wak/Aitape campaigns.

Occupation:
He was a Farm Labourer before enlisting for the WWII then after he joined the South Australian Railways as a Guard, Signalman, Porter’s and other Duties from 5/7/1946.
The majority of his working life from December 1952 until his retirement on 03/05/1985 he was the top Class 2B-2 Crane Driver for the Electricity Trust of South Australia called out at all times after hours to assist with emergency services in major car accidents all over Adelaide and up through the Barossa and Clare Valleys involving cars crashing into electricity poles or storms damaging electricity poles and bringing down power lines. His service in ETSA included the replacement of all wooden Stobie Poles in Adelaide which were replaced with concrete and steel ones.
