Felix enlisted on 8th April 1941 with the CMF and to the AIF on 30th June 1942. Prior to that he had spent 6 years in the 27th  Battalion militia achieving rank of Sargeant. He was promoted to WO2 on 17th November 1941 and the WO1 on 19th August 1942. Following extensive training (achieving distiction in No 1 Armaments course March 1943) he was transferred to Australian Engineers (AEME), and then tranferred to Darwin in August 1943 to the Australian 54th Anti Aircraft within the AEME. On 17th May 1945 he was transferred to Lae PNG military airfield as AA officer as well as electrical workshop. He was discharged from the AIF on 6th November 1945. His period of service encompassed 1128 days in Australia and 175 days overseas.
