Norman was married with one son and residing at 5 Tenth Street, Port Pirie.  He was educated at Solomontown School and enjoyed playing tennis.  In civilian life he was a shop assistant at the Eudunda Farmers Co-op. Society Ltd at Port Pirie.  He enlisted in January 1942.
