                   whilst going up the line.  This necessitated him being returned home.

                   Roy had been in Randwick Hospital for one year and nine months prior to his death.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, from his parents' residence, Georgetown Road, Waratah, the
interment being in the Church of England cemetery, Sandgate, in the presence of a large gathering.

Messrs. P. English, J. Francis, S. Costello and G. Francis were the pall-bearers.
His widow and parents received many wreaths, messages and cards of sympathy.

Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.

99 years ago today, on the Wednesday afternoon of the 3rd August 1921, Private Roy Charles Buchanan, 19th Battalion, brick setter from Turton Road, Waratah, New South Wales, father of three, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 32. ANGLICAN 1-04. 125.

Born at Leichhardt, New South Wales on the 4th December 1888 (as Charles Roy Arthur) to Arthur W (died 1925) and Ellen May (died 1938) Buchanan; husband of Hilda Buchanan nee Francis (married 1920, died?), Roy enlisted July 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

), 14.2.1917 (fractured clavicle), Arthur was invalided home September 1917, discharged as medically unfit 12th November 1917.

Mr Buchanan passed away on the 2nd August 1921 at the Woodville Red Cross Home, Randwick, N.S.W.

Roy’s name has been inscribed on the Hamilton Superior Public School Roll of Honor and the Waratah-St Philip's Anglican Church Roll of Honour (photo, unveiled on the 8th April 1917).
The Newcastle Morning Herald reported Roy’s death and funeral.
Mr. Roy Buchanan died on Tuesday at Woodville Red Cross Hospital, Randwick, of which institution he had been a patient for some considerable time.

The funeral took place on Wednesday, from his parents' residence, Georgetown Road, Waratah, the interment being in the Church of England cemetery, Sandgate, in the presence of a large gathering.
Messrs. P. English, J. Francis, S. Costello and G. Francis were the pall-bearers. The deceased, who was 32 years of age, is survived by his widow and parents, who received many wreaths, messages and cards of sympathy.

He enlisted in 1915, and was one of four brothers who served. He was wounded on two occasions, once at Pozieres, where he was wounded in the hip, which necessitated a silver plate being inserted. The effect of this wound ultimately caused his death.
He was wounded on the second occasion by being blown out of a truck whilst going up the line. This necessitated him being returned home. He had been an inmate of Randwick Hospital for one year and nine months prior to his death.
