Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Only son of Mr and Mrs C.R. GOODWIN of Mann Street, Brompton, SA.  Married to Effie Lillian Ruth GOODWIN with three children and residing at 8 Bacon Street, Hindmarsh when he enlisted, Clifford was educated at Sturt Street Public School and followed outdoor sports.  He was especially interested in homing pigeons and raced for several years as a member of the S.A. Park View Homing Club, Prospect.  Competed in all distrances and in 1940 won the 'Oodnadatta' Open Handicap Cup Trophy and placing in several other events.  He worked for the Water Supply Department for many years and spent some time at Mount Gambier and returned to Adelaide to enlist in June 1941.  Trained at Wayville and Darley (Vic.) and left Australia in September 1941 for the Middle East.  Transferred to the A.A.S.C. Coy. in Palestine and has seen service in Syria.
