Biography

Son of Thomas and Isabell Arthur of 16 Chapel Street, Norwood.

Husband of Gladys Ivy Arthur, of Kensington, South Australia.

Married with three children and residing at 20 Wood Avenue Croydon, George was 25 years old when he enlisted.  Educated at Brompton Public School he followed all outdoor sports and was fond of swimming.  In civilian life he worked at gardening and other occupations in the city and suburbs.  At the time of his enlistment he was in the employ of the S.A. Railways Goods Sheds.   Enlisting in April 1941, George trained at Woodside and left Australia for the Middle East in September 1941.   Private Arthur was killed in action in Egypt on July 22, 1942.
