Biography contributed by DENIS JERICHO

William went to school in Mannum and after his schooling, worked at the local Eudunda Farmers for 19 years.

In December 1940 he enlisted and married Edna Lindner in March 1941. The same year year he left for Malaya where he was taken prisoner of war for 3 1/2 years enduring great hardships. After recouperating on his return in September 1945, he rejoined Eudunda Farmers.

While on a weekend hunting party at Caurnamont, near  Purnong, he tragically lost his life. He tried to stop his dog from falling off the truck, but fell himself and was run over and died instantly. The driver of the truck, Syd Armfield and the others were in severe shock.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev. H.W Harnath in the Lutheran Chuch at Mannum, and was buried in the Memorial section at the Mannum Cemetery. A huge crowd was in attendance.

He was survived by his wife and one of his twin children.
