Joined the RSL Returned Sisters Branch 1947.  She served on the executive as vice president 1983,84,85,86; Secretary 1969 to 1982.  She was a delegate for the State Branch Conference for 15 years; and for the National Council of Women.  She was a hospital and home visitor.  She sold badges on Poppy day, conducted raffles and lotteries.  She conducted religious services at Official Functions.  Assisted the Committee of the Army Nurses Fund.

She trained from 1926 to 1930. Life member of the Australian Trained Nurses association. member of the Royal British Nurses Association. She Held a Mental Nursing Certificate Parkside.  Infectious diseases Certificate Northfield.  Mid wifery Certificate1935, Infant welfare 1947.

Gwendoline Henderson worked in the Labour Ward Sister Jessie McPherson Hospital Hamiliton Base Hospital Vicoria, Geelong Base Hospital Victoria.  Senior Sister relieving Matron Burra Hospital SA, North Field Infectious Diseases Hospital ( Poloimyelitis until the war). Lecturer Home Nursing to teachers at the School of Mines, Repatriation Hospital Daws Rd. Senior Sister TB Ward Daws House Women's Ward  for 6 years 6 months. Out Patients Department 1954 to 68.  Assiatant Matron 'Biralee" Belair.  Prepared Hospital for Sunday service Daws Road.

CMF Duty Warradale Cadet Camp.  On the local church roaster for 2 to 4 boys Sunday care for Glandore Boys Home 2 years. 

She was awarded a Life Membership of the RSL SA for her long service  in 1987
