Colin Louis Wright was born on the 4th of March 1915 in Broken Hill, NSW. Prior to the war he worked at a shearer
Colin’s next of kin was Jean Wright and his hometown was Strathalbyn, Alexandrina, South Australia. Wright’s journey began on the 24th of July 1940, when he enlisted as a Private and served for the Australian Army at Wayville, South Australia, holding the service number SX9592.
He was given the rank of Private in the 8 Division Ammunition Sub Park. After training at Woodside he served in Alice Springs and was deployed to Singapore in November 1941. He was reported as a Prisoner of War 15th February 1942 and was imprisoned at Changi and then Borneo.
Unfortunately, Colin Louis’s life was cut short while in captivity on the 13th of June 1945, due to acute appendicitis. Wright was aged only 30 years. H was buried at Labuan War Cemetery, Labuan, Malaysia. He is remembered as an honourable and brave soldier to this day.
