Corporal Angus Reginald Sara (Service No:SX9334) enlisted in the AIF on 20 July 1940, and was a Private attached to 2/48 Infantry Battalion on 7 November 1940 when he embarked with his Unit from Adelaide for the Middle East on board Stratheden. WiA on 15 April 1941 - GSW right leg - Private Sara embarked from the Middle East for Melbourne on 8 April 1943. Private Sara served in New Guinea (10 August 1943 - 20 February 1944), where he was accidentally injured on 17 August 1943, suffering severe petrol burns to his back and arms. Promoted to Corporal in 1944, he served in Borneo (Morotai and Tarakan) from 21 April 1945 to 1 September 1945, and was attached to 2/48 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 14 September 1945. Younger brother Albert also served in WWII, and Uncle Angus Archibald McDonald was KiA in France in WWI.

Angus was born in Etheltown, Port Adelaide in 1918, third of six children of Reginald (Reg) John Valentine Sara (b1889 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Euphemia (Effie) Lilly Ferguson (nee McDonald; b1889 at Port Adelaide, South Australia). Reg (a Clerk) and Effie (a Widow with two small daughters) married in 1912 at Port Pirie, South Australia. Reg and Effie lived in Glanville, South Australia before moving to Melbourne where, in 1915 Reg was a Clerk when he enlisted in the AIF - serving for a few weeks before Discharging 'for family reasons'. Reg and Effie returned to South Australia by 1917, and Reg - who was a Song Writer and Musician with his brother Henry (they wrote 'My Own Dear Native Land) - worked as a Clerk and Lift Attendant. Reg and Effie lived in Adelaide, where Reg worked as a Lift Attendant and Storeman.

Angus lived in Ethelton, where he was Captain of the Semaphore ANA Cricket Club, played football and worked as a Butcher for H Leach in Ethelton. In 1943 in Adelaide he married Valda McCuish (b1923 in Adelaide, South Australia) and, following his Discharge from the Army, he and Valda lived in Semaphore, where they raised their family and Angus was a Warehouseman. Angus died in 2008 and Valda in 2018.
