Son of Mr and Mrs R S McCLOUNAN of Wilkawatt, SA.  Educated at Wilkawatt Public School, Robert was a keen cricketer and footballer.  He enlisted in June 1940 and after 5 months in the Northern Territory went to Malaya and was a prisoner of war in a Borneo prison camp.
