Frederick Charles King was born in Hindmarsh, South Australia on 26 December 1907. He was the tenth child born to Samuel and Annie Maria King, who eventually had fourteen children. The family lived in the Western Suburbs of Adelaide, mainly in the Hindmarsh and Kilkenny areas. His father, Samuel had a very successful shoemaking business in this area. Besides doing repairs and making shoes and boots he also made surgical footwear.
Following the outbreak of WW2 Frederick enlisted in Adelaide on 1 July 1940 and was attached to the 2/43rd Infantry Battalion which was formed on 17 July 1940 at the Woodside camp, near Adelaide in South Australia.
He saw service with the 2/43rd in the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo. He was discharged on 22 October 1945 and returned to his home in Adelaide.
On 18 April 1953 he married Florence Parslow and they settled in North Plympton, South Australia where Frederick died suddenly on 14 September 2001.
