Son of Mr and Mrs J JONES of 3 Princess Street, Portland, SA.
Husband of Agnes Waterson JONES of Outer Harbour, SA
Educated at Marist Bros' School he played football at Broken Hill and was keen on shooting. John worked in Broken Hill for about twelve months, then returned to Adelaide and worked at Holden's Motor Body Works. Enlisted in June 1940.
His father fought in the Great War in the 43rd Battalion, was gassed in France and was absent from Australia for about two years.
