Son of Frederick Rudolph HAUPT of 4 Penola Street, Kilkenny, SA.  Educated at Blyth Public School, Ronald was in the building trade with his father.  Enlisted June 1940 he sailed for overseas in January 1941 and served several months in Tobruk, and was wounded in action in Egypt in July 1942.  He also spent some time in Syria.
