Son of the late Mr and Mrs W.H. WADE of Berri, SA.  Educated at Berri, he took a keen interest in football, tennis and cricket.  Steve played league football for Ports Country Carnival, cricket, and was also captain of the Monash A Grade Tennis Team.  He enlisted in June 1940 and is one of five brothers serving in the 2nd AIF.
