After enrolment in 1940, the new recruits marched from Wayville to Woodside, a distance of 36 kms.  Later that year, embarked on the Mauritania for overseas, disembarking in the Middle East where Ediley served at Tobruk, Tel Aviv and Palestine.  In 1943, embarked from the Middle East and returned to Australia.  After two months home, sent to Townsville Queensland.  In December 1943, embarked for Burma.  Later served in New Guinea at Lae.  Discharged from the Army 20th August 1945.
