7th Division Petrol Company

SX4111 Donald R Gray was an original member of the South Australian raised, 7th Div Petrol Company.
Captain T.C. Williamson formed the company, mid 1940, Adelaide.

The company served in the Middle East until disbandment.
D R Gray was transferred to the 2/5 coy, AASC 7th Division. 13/1/1942.

During service, he was transferred to other units of the 7th Div AASC.
D R Gray's final posting was to the 2/10 Battalion (27/10/1943)

He served in the Middle east, New Guinea and Borneo.

On the 12 August 1945, SX4111 D R Gray signed the Balikpapan Flag, with 57 others in Borneo.

17 of the signatories (including D R Gray) were original members of the South Australian, 7th Division Petrol Company.

"Royal" or "Royld"

SX4111 Donald R Gray is listed on the National Archives Website as having "Royld" as his middle name.

Opening the service record of SX4111 Gray, reveals that three times (on the same page) he spelt his middle name as Royld. (Attestation form, May 1940).

On the DVA Nominal Roll, SX4111 D R Gray is given "Royal" as his middle name.
