Captain Colin H Mackie 2/10th Batt. AIF aged 31. Son of Mr and Mrs C Mackie of 1 Water Street Kensington Park. Educated at Magill Public School. Fond of cricket was captian of St Morris Cricket Club. An Horticulturist in civil life. Enlisted in AIF November 1939 and left for overseas. After serving in England and the Middle East he returned in March 1942. He lost his life while on active service in New Guinea on December 29 1942. In an attack on Giropi Point, Capt. Mackie ran forward under heavy fire to urge on the foward troops when he was fatally wounded by a burst of machine-gun fire. He was struck in the head and died instantly. His corageous bearing in action was an inspiration to his men and fellow officers.
