Son of Byles Stanyon Sudders Crowther and Isabelle May Crowther, of Adelaide, South Australia. Educated at Barossa and gained his QC., Leslie was a member of the Menz Cricket Club and also keen on table tennis.  He was also a Member of the Order of Knights, Methodist Church, Halifax Street. In civilian life he worked as a bisuit baker at Menz & Coy. for several years and left this occupation to enlist in October 1939 after serving 3 years in R.A.E. Militia Forces.  He left Australia in December 1940 for England, then to the Middle East and went through the desert campaign and on to Syria.

Father Byles Suddars Stanyon CROWTHER and  Mother Isabell May LEONARD.
Prior to enlisting he lived with his parents at 27 Bartles Street, Adelaide, SA.

Described on enlisting as 22 years old;

3/11/1939     Enlisted in Adelaide, South Australia
                    Private in 2/3 Australian Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers (R.A.E.)

24/9/1943      killed in action in New Guinea
                     as a Sapper in 2/3 Field Company

buried in:       Finschaffen War Cemetery
                     Plot F, Row D, Grave 15

later his remains were exhumed and reburied in:
                     Lae War Cemetery, Lae, New Guinea
                     Plot BB, Row B, Grave 15.
