Personal Stories
Enlistment
William and his younger brother Thomas were the first men from the Alawoona S.A. area to enlist in the services for the 2nd World War. To do so they had to ride pushbikes from Alawoona to Adelaide at the Keswick Barracks and then return. It was a round trip of 440kms (275 miles).
They were both in the 2nd/10th and served in North Africa at Tobruk and later in New Guinea from Milne Bay to Buna, Sanananda and Ramu Valley.
