Capt. Walter Pick Dies of Illness
Capt. Walter Pick, fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Pick, of Coondambo, via Port Augusta, S.A., died of illness on active service in New Guinea on December 10. Capt. Pick was 29 years of age and was educated at the Christian Brothers College, Adelaide. He joined the 2nd A.I.F. as a private (2/10th Battalion) in October, 1939, and embarked for the Middle East with the rank of lieutenant. Capt. Pick served in the siege of Tobruk and was wounded in the first Libyan campaign. Many people in this district will deeply regret to hear of the death of a member of a family that is so well known and highly respected throughout this district. Capt. Pick was a nephew of Messrs. Harry and James Pick, of Mount Gambier.
