Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Mr and Mrs William BIRRELL, of Edinburgh, Scotland.  Married with two sons and residing at 28 Vera Street Port Pirie, William was educated at a Public School in Edinburgh.  He was orginally a shipbuilder before he came to Australia, and has been employed by the B.H.A. Smelters at Port Pirie.  He enlisted and was in the first contingent to leave Australia.  Invalided home in May 1941.
