Son of James Henry Virgo and Susan Sarah Virgo nee Hood of Penola Road, Mount Gambier, SA.
Brother of George William Virgo who returned to Australia on 28 September 1917 having served with the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column.
Prior to enlisting Thomas had been a member of the Lake Bolak Rifle Club for three years
Commenced return to Australia on 15 May 1919 aboard HT Orontes disembarking on 8 June 1919
