My Grandfather Allan Heard
Hello , I'm Allan Heard's eldest grandchild, Cheryl Ann Heard.
My Poppy Allan was the best grandfather I could wish for. I loved him until he died and even beyond that. I'm now aged 50 and no matter how old I get , I will always be his grandchild.
I never got tired of Poppy Allan's war stories or the mutual respect he had for his comrades who served with him. My grandfather was proud of his military service -it showed when he spoke of the honour he felt when being called an Australian soldier.
Behind the tough guy which was my grandfather, there was a family man who loved his son Graham & his grandchildren. Poppy Allan had the most infectious laugh & the biggest heart. I was always spoiled by my grandfather.
Poppy Allan loved his alcohol but it was his way of coping with some of the memories that he had from his military service in a war.
My funniest memory of Poppy Allan was when we used to eat melted cheese on toast together and he would pretend to sneeze in mine- we would then giggle & cuddle each other.
Poppy Allan , bless him could never brush my hair properly as he always made more knots. However, he bought me lots of story books & dolls.
Here is my tribute to my beautiful Poppy Allan:
Hi Poppy,
I love you and will always miss you. I will never forget you.
You will always be my favourite person even though the angels claimed you years ago.
Poppy Allan, I'm so much like you, that it is the funny part. I have your laughter but also your wisdom. I have your zest for life.
I'm proud to have known you Pop.
Heaven gained a beautiful soul when you passed away. I'm sorry that you left me Poppy Allan.
Anzac Day will always be treasured by me because of you & your comrades.
I wish we could have spent every Anzac Day together Poppy Allan. Had you not passed away years ago, we would have been great mates now. Although Poppy, you & I got along well from the first time we met.
Poppy Allan the memories of you will stay with me for a lifetime.
Love you Pop.
Love from your eldest grandchild Cheryl Ann xxxxx
