Brother of William Thomas Hayes who died of wounds on 12 April 1917 while serving with the 51st Battalion. Buried in St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen. Block O, Plot V111, Row P, Grave 4

Commenced return to Australia on 10 July 1919 aboard HT Oxfordshire disembarking on 4 August 1919
