Son of William and Adelaide Ryan; husband of Irene May Ryan, of Moonee Ponds, Victoria.
George was raised in a family of eight children in Port Lincoln South Australia. He enlisted in the Australian Army on June 28 1940 in Irymple Victoria.
He was assigned to Unit 'R' Company Victoria. George was the brother of the late Stanhope dairy farmer, tom ryan.
There are a number of his relatives living in the district today.
Pte. G.E. Ryan, Mildura, who has been reported missing in Rabaul, is the son of Mrs. A. Ryan, Port Lincoln. His wife lives in Dundas Place, Albert Park. He was formerly employed in the Irymple packing shed.
