Died on this date - 26th December.......Private George Cowen 6799 was born in 1890 at Port Cygnet, near Gardeners Bay, Tasmania, Australia. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 31st July, 1916 as a married, Labourer,aged 23 years & 11 months from Hobart, Tasmania.

Private Cowen was marched in to 3rd Training Battalion at Perham Downs, Wiltshire on 22nd November, 1916. He was admitted to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire on 22nd December, 1916.

Private George Cowen died at 7.45 p.m. on 26th December, 1916 at Fargo Military Hospital from Broncho Pneumonia. He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire where 140 other WW1 Australian Soldiers are buried.
