Born in South Yarra, Victoria, enlisted in Melbourne September 1914, aged 21 years 1 months, 5 foot 8 inches, 11 stone, an original of A Company 6th Battalion, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on 19 October 1914, killed in action at the Landing Gallipoli 25th April 1915.

Older brother, 568 Pte. Herbert George Bennett, 28th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Pozieres 29th July, 1916, age 39.

Another brother, 119 Pte. Albert Bennett 44th Battalion AIF, died 5 months after his return to Australia, after serving 3.5 years in France.
